I guess we haven't really discussed how the different areas will be handled, but for Marketing which i definitely want to be a part of, I reckon making a separate post with ideas and goals would be good.

As we all know; information about ESA 2013 could have been spread way far and way wider. This topic is not going to be all about the work prior to the marathons, but also things we could do generally to rise our exposure.

How we can get more publicity next year / How do we spread the word about us?
* Contacting the game-sections at different local/international newspapers by phone/mail
* Build an extensive Mail-list or excel document with mail/contact information to Gaming news-sites/Communities that would be interested in us.
* Market and answer questions about ourselves in large gaming-forums
* Posters in strategic places in large cities
* Create an official Ludendi Facebook page. I know there's a group for the local organization, but an official organization Page is needed to help the organization's international presence for events like ESA.  Do the same for Google+ (helps with SEO).  Twitter is already there as @TeamLudendi. The goal is to cover the largest social medias and to create regular updates and information.
* Make a list of social media influencers in Speed Running, Video Games, and the ESA 2014 charity of choice on Facebook, Twitter, Google+.  Make sure they see ESA hype, and encourage them to forward it.
* Consider creating a Pinterest account, that pins videos and links of Team Ludendi members and ESA runners.
* Make sure in your list of video game press that you include influential bloggers. And for the love of all that is good, use BCC if you mass email them. :)

Two tools that are good for keeping presences on multiple media are IFTTT and HootSuite.

How we would like to portray ourselves when we spread the word?
Now when I think about it i don't remember what i thought when i formulated the question, I guess
it's about our image; would we like to highlight the charity for instance?

What sort of preparations must be done in order for us to market ourselves? (Media, etc..)
* Press-Package (a zip file etc) containing Logo, Artwork, poster-material and general information for the event
* Mail used for mass-mailing (please take into account how we would like to portray ouselves)
* Forum post template for use on forums
* Time-plan and definition of tasks

When do we spread the word about us and to whom?
* I think timing of when we spread the word about us is important. Too early and people will forget about us; too late the buzzword won't have time to spread.

What kind of expenses can we expect?
* e.g Printing of posters.

What people want to work with this, and what are their separate tasks?
* Charleon - Building Mail-lists to potential News-sites, oversee the actual progress

What should be logical milestones and goals for the marketing section?
* E.g when should the final plan be ready?
* How many people would we like to reach?

Tasks
* Define the tasks
* Define social network coverage and updateing-strategy.
* Appoint responsible people to update said social networks.

Nice post Charleon, like a boss!

As I said earlier you may use me as a link to Anders Brunlöf (svampriket.se) and whenever appropriate see if that link could help out in spreading the word in the Swedish gaming community.

Let me know if I can help out in any other ways.
Good plan.  Further suggestions I'll make:

* Create an official Ludendi Facebook page. I know there's a group for the local organization, but an official organization Page is needed to help the organization's international presence for events like ESA.  Do the same for Google+ (helps with SEO).  Twitter is already there as @TeamLudendi.

* Consider creating a Pinterest account, that pins videos and links of Team Ludendi members and ESA runners.

* Make sure in your list of video game press that you include influential bloggers. And for the love of all tha tis good, use BCC if you mass email them. :)

My last job was all about raising the online profile of an organization. I grew our mailing list from 16,000 to about 35,000 and got our Facebook visibility to grow substantially while turning a steady Like decline into new growth.  I'm happy to help with ideas or execution.

Updated first post with your suggestions, they are very much appreciated. it is indeed important to be present in all the big social networks, and the emphasis is on presence; with regular posts and updates. We need to be careful though that we don't "tar oss vatten över huvudet", meaning creating too much work for too few people, which will create negligence in updating the medias and demotivate said people. We should at LEAST be visible the months before the event

the below text is really about how to treat the team as a team, and not necessarily only applicable to ESA 2014
I really like the idea of the "Team" aspect, which would create updates in the medias whenever a member of a team took a new PB in a game, or a WR. I really need to look into the team more though, i can only name 9 or 10 people on top of my head that I know is a member of TeamLudendi. Ina ccordance to this great idea it would be a great action to inform ALL runners under teamludendi and encourage them to give updates often about new PB's in games, or WR's. I know this is done to some extent on twitter already, but if we empower the team feeling and make everyone do regular reports to a single source, not only will we have more of a team feeling, but also Content to update the medias with! Updating the medias should be done with regular intervals rather than irregular and much information at once. So if reports pile up: Good, then you have content to update with in weeks to come! At least this is my vision on how we should handle this. Comments, subjections or objections are welcome

Marketing is not a thing to just think about prior to the event, it's important to think of all the time, and here I would like to get one or two or three volunteers for the future; people that want to handle the information on the social medias. :)

tl:dr version:
* Encourage ALL team members to report their PB:s, WR:s, Progress, new games they run to ONE single source to create content for social medias.
* Maintain a presence on Facebook/Twitter/Google+ with regular updates. Regular is better than big, sparse updates.
* We need 1-3 people to take care of this, and starting soon would be nice!
* This will hopefully strenghten the team feeling/spirit, because hopefully people within the team will then be more aware of other people's activity and even congratulate them!

@Ozzy: thank you for pointing that out, when we start building that excel document, I'll be sure to add svampriket :D

Yo, A ESA group on Facebook is something I can do. I manage everything els online for us except the Ludendi Skövde FB-group, where I do most of the updates but Frezy is the owner. So all of this has been me doing all alone, if someone would want to give me some help I would love it! I kinda also founded the team online so I feel it's my baby! <3 (except the ESA homepage, that was all Edenal! <3)
Not a group. A Page.

A Page for Ludendi.

Yes, this is an important distinguishition (is that even a word?). For now we need to spread the word about Ludendi. ESA 2014 comes later when we have created the buzz and got a crowd following us!. I guess using one of the tools PresJPolk mentioned would make 1 click = post on facebook/twitter/Google+ possible? then it would not be harder than to simply update the twitter.
I'm going to kill the ESA website soon btw. And remake it sometime in the future.

Google+ is marginally good for SEO but I don't think that's a big deal at this time for ESA.

I *do* think a Pinterest account would be neat, to pin webpages, videos, and streams of ESA runners.  But it may be premature for that.
Just a heads-up, I won't be able to be very active in the coming weeks, nor have i been the last month, I'm home "sick", possibly utbrändhet but it's still being diagnosed, so I have a very hard time to think and plan at the moment, I hope it will get better soon so I can start to really dig into this with Grukk. much love!
Real sorry to hear that, just focus on getting well again and plug in when you feel strong enough!

We sort this out meanwhile!
How "Helloooooooow!" can you go?
I've sent a message to Pelit, a Finnish gaming magazine and another one called MikroBitti. Waiting for responses. I'll let you know straight away if they express an interest in ESA.

I like the idea of including some example PBs or WRs in some well-known games in the marketing material. I once told a friend about speedrunning and just named the "Half-Hour Half-Life" as an example. Pure astonishment and cries of "Whaaat!? He had to be using hacks! He had to be cheating! It took me tens of hours to finish the game!". Technically, he was cheating, of course... :P
