So i found this laying around at m GF:s place yesterday:
http://www.musiciansbuy.com/MIDIMAN_DUO_USB_W_MIC_PREAMP-NO_MIDI.html
being that my headset MIC is really low I decided to test it out.
1. I plugged it into the computer, it said it found all the drivers and I could find the M-audio both as an input and an output source in the windows "mixer" (The driver-cd is gone and it being a pretty old product i didn't really bother to search for drivers..)
2. my headset is: http://www.pixmania.se/se/se/4869589/art/steelseries/horlurar-siberia-v2-vit.html?merch=1#srcid=910&key=FDpwe0drGhBUXl0qd0cMXg4wNQQqMFdhHBZhRQU0Fjl/dkF3bGAjLVItd0MMXnxPMwJZXQ==&CodePromo=oui which i bought yesterday.
3. I plugged the 3.5 mm Mic of the headset into a 6.3mm adaptor to make it fit the MIC-in of the  M-audio pre-amp.
4. Whatever i did i could not get any audio levels of the M-Audio to go up..

Does anybody have any theory of why? e.g s my idea of putting everything together faulty? do i really need the drivers, even though windows said it managed to detect it automatically? it's pretty old so maybe it's broken?

Always search for drivers when a device isn't working correctly I say.
