Okay this thread is for discussing right now, about which days, in which month during next summer, there will be a new ESA. So lets begin with it. Poll-thread should be started later on

I think the date we had this year was better then the first year..
June/July is a great month, august felt a bit late..

I agree with Curseddolls, June/July is a good time to hold ESA2014.

In general week 29-31 are the most popular weeks for vacation in Sweden. And these are the weeks when kindergardens and schools are closed, making it harder to get vacation during that time period.

I would like us to have ESA starting July 28th (Monday of week 31), and forth.

its the most popular weeks for vacations but it makes it harder to get vacations during this period?
that sentence didn't make sense to me..

anyway yeah july was a nice month this year too but why have it so late on the month?

Yes, it's harder to get vacation because everyone else on your department if also going to want vacation. And everyone cannot get approved vacation at the same time because the company cannot simply shut down during the summer. Most companies handle vacation in the way that you suggest what weeks / days you want, sometime in March/April, and you get approval in May.

Since these are the popular weeks, you cannot always except to get all of them. And it's always easier to end your vacation early in that period, or start it late.

Late in a month you have the benefit that people will have gotten their paychecks.

ah yeah saying it like that makes it more sense in my head.
and true late in month assure you have money, just felt so late on the summer.. that's all..

If weeks 29-31 is the hardest to get vacation, why not host i the week after, i.e. week 32 (August 4 - 10)? It's still not too late after the paycheck and the schools haven't started yet.

i felt august was very late.. we had kind of close to that date the first esa.. :/

July was pretty easy for me to get time off work because I knew about it in advance, it's the start of busy holiday season. But I'm relatively flexible, just so long as I know the dates far enough in advance that I can get the time off!

Yyeah what Edenal says is a gerat date. I could actually make it again at that time. Because if it's gonna be in June, I probably won't be able to make it, because of school. But the schools in Holland start around te time that OC says so I 'm getting worried here. I was planning to stay for the bodus stream and if it finishes on the 10th of August school starts the next day

Sorry if I was unclear. It's hard to get vacation approved for the entire span of those weeks.

Week 32 work too I guess.

A few dates we should be aware of:
Fifa World Cup - June 12th to July 13th
Dreamhack Summer 2014 - July 14 to July 17th
E3 - June 10th - 15th?
Evo - Unknown (Has been early July the past 2 years, and late July 2011)

Mind you that SGDQ is going to get a take week there too.

I'm really happy with week 31.

There is always the potential that someone else is happening during the same time. If we settle date early, those who wants to attend have all the time in the world to make arrangements and if (let me say when) another event collides with ESA, you will have to prioritize. It's part of life :)

no ofc people will have to prioritize but usually when we set the date we usually say "we cant do this or this date because that or that is happening then..
so always we that have to fit our date towards other events..

I would give my vote on week 31, that was the time we wanted 2012 but had to move because of the olympics right, and this year we wanted it but SDA picked the same dates. So this time, we better be first with it! :D

I thought that's how it works: All of Sweden (and Finland) shuts down from Juhannus to something August? ;)

I also hate week numbers, because they're unintuitive and not logical for me … but I would prefer a starting date between mid-July and mid-August.
Definitely be aware of when Romscout wants to have SGDQ, stay well clear of the world cup (same reason as olympics two years ago) and most of the other things there.
Actually considering those world cup dates, we're limited to early June or late July/August. As is SGDQ xD Let's just hope, SGDQ goes with late May/early June and all those stupid online marathons cluster up the world cup time, so people are free to donate at ESA late July/early August 8D.

Not really. They could pick the same week if they wanted to be jerks. But yeah, week 31 sounds good to me...? For those of you who don't use week numbers, that's July 28'th to August 3'rd.

Good thing Drew (Romscout) is not a jerk ;)

We worked together with the SGDQ-crew last year, and we will again this year. If anyone thinks that we are gonna pick a date to spite SGDQ, you could not be more wrong.

The suggestion currently is:
Setup start late July 25th and will carry on the 26th.
Marathon starts the 27th (sunday) and will end the 2nd or 3rd.
3rd + 4th as bonus.
Leave on 5th.
